Mushrooms and Swiss cheese melt together on golden bread for savory, satisfying comfort.

# Needed Ingredients:

→ Mushroom Filling

01 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
02 - 1 tablespoon olive oil
03 - 1 shallot, finely chopped
04 - 2 cups sliced mushrooms (Portobello, Cremini, or Shiitake)
05 - 1 teaspoon thyme, fresh or dried
06 - 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
07 - Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

→ Sandwich Assembly

08 - 4 slices Swiss cheese, or Gruyère
09 - 8 slices bread (Rye, Sourdough, or Artisan)
10 - Butter, as needed for bread

# Preparation Steps:

01 - Preheat a dry skillet over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the moisture has evaporated.
02 - Add unsalted butter, olive oil, and finely chopped shallot to the mushrooms. Continue sautéing for 5 minutes until mushrooms are golden and shallots are softened.
03 - Stir in thyme, balsamic vinegar if using, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
04 - Spread butter evenly on one side of each bread slice. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on the unbuttered side of four bread slices.
05 - Divide the mushroom mixture evenly among the cheese-topped bread slices. Layer another slice of Swiss cheese on top of the mushrooms. Close with remaining bread, keeping the buttered side facing outward.
06 - Heat a skillet or panini press over medium heat. Cook assembled sandwiches for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.

# Supplementary Details:

01 - For best results, use a mix of mushroom varieties and slice them evenly for uniform cooking.
